Did Eric Gordon Lose his Tooth? (Mouthguards are essential!)

Image
“It cracked in half,” he said. “I’m going to get it capped. No biggie. I mean, it was painful. I had a little headache, but I was still gonna play.” This could’ve been avoided!   If only he had been wearing a mouthguard.   Mouthguards are an essential piece of equipment for anyone, young or old, playing any kind of contact sport.   They act like a shock absorber, both spreading the force over a larger area and increasing the time for the peak force to occur. Dissipating the energy of the blow over a larger area and longer time reduces its effect preventing or vastly reducing any injury. With no mouthguard, a blow to the lower face sends shock waves through the skull. A direct impact can fracture the front teeth.   A mouthguard can be custom fitted to provide maximum protection.   An over the counter (boil and bite)will work better than no mouthguard, but one custom made by your dentist will fit better, be more comfortable, last longer and can com...

Are DIY Dental Braces a Good Idea?

A lot of new orthodontic treatments are gaining popularity. You may have heard of   these Invisalign copycats which aim to avoid seeing the dentist at all.  Besides the dangers of "do-it-yourself" dentistry, we ask, why avoid the dentist?    Invisalign   visits are among the easiest visits you'll ever have at the dentist.  As Dr Michael Saba of The Laser Dental Group states "When you arrive, you aren't in pain. You don't have to get numb, so no needle and no after-effects of the anesthesia.  Most times your visit is done in under 20 minutes.  And the end result is a beautiful smile! "Dr Saba is an Invisalign Certified Specialist who works in both the Union and Westfield offices. "So to sum up, the visits are quick, pain-free, non-invasive and have an excellent, completely supervised outcome.  What's not to love?  That's a visit to the dentist that anyone can get behind."  Give our office a call for a cons...

Tooth Shedding

"Mama my tooth came out!" Photo All Rights Reserved* "Mama my tooth came out" are words that parents hear many times,  20 times to be exact.  Children start shedding their baby teeth at age 5 or 6 normally the front teeth are the first to go.  We have a wonderful interactive Dental Developmental Chart on our website which we encourage you to use as a tool to monitor your own child's dental development.  This is important because if the baby teeth are stubborn the child can end up with Shark Teeth, where the permanent teeth erupt in front of or behind the baby teeth.  Or if they come out too early the child may need spacers to save the spot for the adult tooth.  That is why it is best to start office visits at age 1.   If you have any questions please feel free to call or visit us at either our Union 908-686-2040 or Westfield 908-232-2136 office.  *Parental permission obtained for use  of photo for  The Laser Dental Group...
