Practicing proper Oral Hygiene is essential to preventing toothdecay and gum disease.  Your teeth have 5 best friends and they are:  a Tooth Brush, Tooth Paste, Dental Floss, your Dental Hygienist and your Dentist.

Toothbrush: It is best to use a toothbrush with soft bristles. If your brush too hard your gums may begin to recede and enamel can get worn down It is a good idea to use an electric toothbrush, however it is not necessary.

Toothpaste: Fluoride Toothpaste is recommended.  Not all toothpaste is made equally.  Avoid toothpaste with blue specks.

Dental Floss: It is said that flossing is just as important as brushing and it’s no wonder; floss reaches the places that your toothbrush can’t.  In other words you have 2 rows of teeth, 32 teeth in total, with 64 sides, of which 60 sides can only be cleaned by dental floss. That comes to 40% of your teeth that need to be cleaned by dental floss.

Dental Hygienist: DentalHygienists are educated and highly skilled professionals, who not only can clean your teeth clean but they also help to keep gums healthy.  Some people who are especially cavity prone have a cleaning every 4 months and by doing that greatly decrease their chances of having cavities.

Dentist: If your smile is healthy so are you. Studies have shown 90% of major systemic diseases have oral manifestations, for example diabetes, pancreatic cancer, heart and kidney disease.  Visit your Dentist regularly.
