Children’s Oral Hygiene Is It Taken Seriously?

Unfortunately, it is not. Many are raised with the idea that baby teeth don’t matter, so why bother taking care of them?’ Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. Cavities on baby teeth can affect adult teeth, by causing premature loss of teeth leading to more expensive measures like orthodontics. Cavities cause significant pain to children. The most worrisome is the potential of an infection that can leave a child hospitalized.

Generally, what is consumed is the major cause leading to cavities in children. Things like soda, juice, candy and even milk can cause cavities and other problems, like baby bottle syndrome. However, consumption is only one part of the preventable problem.

It’s almost impossible to prevent consumption of sodas, candies and other harmful foods from sugar-hungry children.  There are two solutions: moderation and hygiene. After consumption of sweets, have your child brush and floss. The motion of brushing will remove the harmful sugars from the teeth and cleanse the gums. Flossing will get remove sugars and microscopic bacteria in-between teeth, where the brushes bristles cannot fit. Getting children accustomed to brushing, flossing, and a well-balanced diet at an early age will ingrain these ideas into their minds and provide better oral health for their future adult teeth.

The Laser Dental Group does its best to not just treat, but also prevent cavities. Dental care and education is our top priority to our patients. We go beyond just treatment by educating the community. Locally, we provide dental hygiene instruction at schools.  Internationally, our doctors have traveled to remote areas of Peru and the Dominican Republic to provide dental services to people who otherwise would not receive dental care. Our Internet community is very important to us and so we have provided resources on our website to share with you on oral hygiene and early dental care.   I encourage you to share this information with as many people as you can, because it is important for their overall health.
